QUESTIONS ABOUT PRODUCTS

Is De Wit Cameras an official brand dealer?

We are not official Leica dealers, nor are we representatives of any other brands of mechanical photo equipment. For modern equipment, we therefor cannot give the regular manufacturer’s warranty. The price we ask for new equipment is lower than the price you pay at official dealers.

Do you only sell secondhand items, or also new equipment?

All of the items on our website are secondhand; including the products that are in Mint condition, or the ones that are still unused in the original packaging. This means that every camera, lens or accessory we offer, is unique. Therefor, we care to describe all our equipment as fully, and as detailed as possible. In the item description, we both address the technical aspects (such as shutter speeds, focusing etc.) as well as the cosmetic condition (for example scratches, dents, other significant wear). If an item has flaws from wear or age, we will always mention this. Where needed, we will also give an advice about the purpose of the product, stating whether it is more suitable for users, collectors, or hobbyists. Apart from that, we will provide clear pictures of the item that will enable you to form an accurate impression of what to expect.

You can be sure that the item you are purchasing is in the exact same condition as described, including possible defects or other special features that are worth mentioning.

Do you make repairs on mechanical cameras or lenses?

No (unfortunately). We do not offer any repair services on analogue photo equipment ourselves. For your Leica, Rollei and Hasselblad repairs in Holland, we would like to trustingly refer you to:

I want to sell my analog photo equipment. Are you buying any?

We are always on the look-out for fine collectors items or good equipment for users. We mainly focus on Leica, Rollei and Hasselblad cameras, lenses and accessories. But other brands are also welcome, provided that the items are in good condition.

Do you believe that your items may be interesting for us? Feel free to send an email to info@dewitcameras.com with a description of your items and pictures. We will respond to your message as soon as possible.

How can I order from the website?

How to request an item

If you are interested in purchasing one or more of our items, simply add them to your shopping cart. You can place as many items as you like. If you are ready, you can revise the items in the shopping cart one last time. Then click ‘Proceed to checkout’ and fill out your personal data. You can choose to pick up the items yourself in Ede (by appointment only) or have them sent to you. After that, you can select your payment method.

We will inform you as soon as possible by email about whether the articles of your choice are still in stock. You will receive a notice shortly.

Payment

If you chose to pick up your order in Ede, we are happy to receive you in our office. You can make an appointment by calling +31 (0)318479103 (Theo de Wit). You can pay cash or make a money transfer by internet banking on the spot, if you have a dutch bank account. Unfortunately, we do not offer any debit card payment facility.

If you select shipment, we will send your order as soon as possible. A separate email will be sent to you by the shipping company, providing you with the international tracking code of the parcel.

Can I visit the shop?

No shop

We are a webshop. That means that we do NOT have a shop. You can pick up your items by appointment, but we do not have any of our products on display. Are you interested in a specific item? We can imagine you prefer seeing valuable items ‘in real life’ first. In that case, you are welcome to make an appointment to come and admire the gem of your interest in person and test it out.

What are the shipping rates?

Shipping costs vary per item and destination. They are automatically calculated in the shopping cart.

An order for a foreign address (outside of Holland)

We are proud to say that we have customers all over the world! We regularly send parcels to the United States, Singapore, Australia, Taiwan and many other countries. And of course also within Europe (for example Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, United Kingdom and more).

The shipping costs are automatically calculated at check-out. Please note, import duties may apply. See other FAQ.

Exceptions

Countries where restrictions or embargoes have been imposed by the EU or WTO. We reserve the right to refuse orders and/or shipments.

What happens if a parcel gets lost or damaged?

Fortunately, we have not experienced any loss or damage to any of our parcels over the last 5 years!

When we send a parcel within Holland, your items are insured for a maximum amount of € 500,- in case of damage, loss or theft. In case of calamities, an internal investigation will be started by PostNL. Please bear in mind that it can take them quite some time to finish their investigation! In case there is a compensation, we will pay that out to you as soon as possible.

How long does the shipping take?

Shipping time

We try our very best to ship your order as soon as possible with PostNL/MyParcel. Usually this happens on the same day as the order, or the day after. Because it’s ‘just’ the two of us here, it can sometimes take a little longer to pack everything and bring it to the post office; we thank you for your understanding.

Shipping time Holland

Normally, you will receive your parcel the next working day (in Holland). You will get an e-mail message from the carrier with the tracking code, so that you can trace your parcel online. Please note that shipping can take longer on holidays and in extreme situations such as the corona crisis.

Shipping time Europe

Normally, parcels to European countries will be delivered within 2-5 working days. You will get an e-mail message from the carrier with the tracking code, so that you can trace your parcel online. Please note that shipping can take longer on holidays and in extreme situations such as the corona crisis.

Shipping time outside Europe (World)

Normally, parcels outside of Europe will be delivered within 5-10 working days. This is different for each country and also depends on the handling time of local customs. Unfortunately, this is not something we have any influence on. You will get an e-mail message from the carrier with the tracking code, so that you can trace your parcel online. Please note that shipping can take longer on holidays and in extreme situations such as the corona crisis.

Do I have to pay import tax on my order?

You may have to pay tax for shipments to countries outside Europe. The possible costs for import duties may differ per country. We have no influence on the calculation and/or amount of import taxes by customs for shipments outside the EU. You will receive a notification from customs when the package is ready and what the determined amount of the customs clearance costs is. Only after payment to customs will the postal service proceed to the actual delivery of your package.

By placing an order with us, we assume that you have made yourself aware of these possible additional costs. If you refuse a shipment because of the import duties and the package is therefore returned to us, we reserve the right to deduct the shipping costs incurred by us from the refund.

What payment methods does De Wit Cameras offer?

Payment at pick-up:

You can pay with cash at our office or through online banking (with an app on your phone or if needed you can use our computer). Unfortunately, we do not offer any debit card payment facility. The nearest ATM is at a 10 minute driving distance.

Payment at webhop (with shipping):

You can pay with I-deal, creditcard and PayPal. It is also possible to pay with a direct bank transfer or with Apple-pay.

Are there any costs associated with my chosen payment method?

You can pay without fees through direct bank transfer, IDeal, Bancontact and some other methods.

We also offer other payment services like PayPal, creditcard, SOFORT, Klarna, Apple Pay and others. For this we are forced to pass on the costs to our customers. When selecting a payment method, these charges are automatically displayed before you pay.

QUESTIONS ABOUT INVOICES & ADMINISTRATION

Do I receive a VAT invoice of my order?

After packing and sending your order you will receive the invoice from us by email. We are a small company and do not have to pay VAT on our sales for the time being. That is why you will not see VAT on your invoice.

Incidentally, second-hand goods fall under the margin rate (so no VAT anyway).

What is the general return policy?

After registering your return, you have another 14 days to send back the parcel. Please make sure to send the product including all delivered extras and -if possible- in the original condition and packaging. The risk of shipping and the costs of the return shipment are for you as a buyer. Please make sure to keep your parcel tracking code! De Wit Cameras recommends adding an extra insurance when sending valuable items.

    Retouren buiten 14 dagen na ontvangst?

    Wij nemen helaas geen producten meer retour, die niet binnen 14 dagen bij ons zijn aangemeld voor retour en daarna binnen 14 dagen zijn verzonden. Omdat onze analoge fotoapparatuur gemiddeld 80 tot 20 jaar oud is kunnen wij géén garantie geven op de werking na de inspectieperiode. Can I cancel an order before it has been shipped?

Of course it can always happen that you change your mind. You can cancel an order that has already been paid by you, but has not yet been shipped by us, by sending an email to info@dewitcameras.com or by filling out the contact form.

We will refund you the full purchase amount through the payment method you have chosen.

    Returns later than 14 days after receiving your item?

    Unfortunately, we do not accept returns that are not mentioned to us within 14 days after receiving the item, and/or which are not shipped within 14 days after that. Because our analog photo equipment has an average of 80-20 years of age, we cannot give any guarantee on its functionality after the inspection period. Do I get any warranty on my purchase?

General warranty

The products that we sell are secondhand, that’s why we CANNOT provide the usual factory warranty! The vast majority of our photo equipment is at least 20 years old, or older, and is thus not meant to be used by photographers (even though items are fully functional in many cases).

After receiving the item you have a 14-day testing period. In case the product does not work according to the description, we will first try to have it fixed by a professional. Please note: Do NOT try to repair the item yourself, but notify us first. We will find a suitable repairer for you. If a repair cannot be done within a reasonable amount of time, you can return the item. We will provide a shipping label that you can print.

PLEASE NOTE: Defects are mentioned in the individual product description. The 14-day warranty only applies for defects that were NOT mentioned in the product description at the time of the purchase!

Defects after 14 days of delivery: It can happen, that vintage photo equipment shows defects after the 14-day inspection period. Of course we will be very sorry to hear this, but unfortunately we CANNOT accept any responsibility for the technical functioning or cosmetic appearance of the equipment after the inspection period. Our general terms differ from regular website terms and conditions. By placing your order, you automatically accept these conditions.

Guarantee on the authenticity of Collector’s Items

We provide a 1 year guarantee on the authenticity of our exclusive Collector’s Items.

What if my purchase does not match the product description?

We aim to test our products if possible and give the most extensive product description we can. However, in exceptional cases it might happen than an article does not match the description. For example: the description states that the diaphragm works well, but when executing the inspection it falters. Please notify us of any defects and do not try to fix the item yourself.

We provide, after receiving the order, a 14 day guarantee on hidden defects. Which means that if you find that the equipment does not match the product description as it was stated on the moment of your purchase, then we will arrange for the item to be repaired by an expert on our expense. Please note: Do NOT bring the item to a repairer without consulting us first!

If full repair is not possible within reasonable time, we will refund the full amount. In case you have made extra costs, for example shipping costs for the return, we will also reimburse them. It is thus very important that you inspect the goods as soon as possible after receiving your order, so that you can apply for this arrangement if needed.

When does the hidden defects warranty not apply?

We do not give any warranty on defects that were reported to us outside of the maximum 14-day inspection period. The 14-day guarantee is also invalid in case we find that a defect has been caused by the consumer (for example by mishandling the equipment, water damage, damage from falling etc.)

If you notice a defect on a product that is not stated in the description, please notify us first, and do not make any repairs on your own.

When you receive your order, you of course have the opportunity to test your product. Only perform the actions that are strictly needed to be able to correctly judge the item. For example; do not make a complete wedding photo shoot and then return the camera…

What if a collector's item turns out to be fake?

For rare collector’s items, we give warranty on originality for a period of 1 year. We provide a declaration of originality for those specific items. Of course, you can rely on our knowledge to determine if an item is original or fake.

What does De Wit Cameras do to prevent handling stolen goods?

We mention the serial numbers of every individual product on our website. For example the camera number, lens number or any other individual characteristics. This way, we are open about the products that we sell and that reduces the change of unlawful trading to a minimum.

The same thing applies to our purchase. When we buy photo equipment from you, we will ask you to identify yourself and to sign our seller contract.

How does De Wit Cameras contribute to sustainability?

By trading in second-hand products, De Wit Cameras supports a sustainable world. Apart from that, we use recycled packaging materials as much as we can!

How does De Wit Cameras handle COVID?

We do not have an actual store. Picking up orders remains possible under the following COVID-rules: keep distance, wear a mount mask, stay home when you are experiencing COVID-related health issues.
