Often color filters are offered while buying an analog camera set. But how does that work, when you take black and white pictures?
What effect can a color filter give and which filter is used for what?
Red, orange and yellow filters
In general, these warm colors are used to give the cooler colors (i.e. blue) more definition. A classic example of this is a cloudy sky; it gets much more contrast when using a warm filter. The depth effect of a red filter will be stronger than that of a yellow filter, so you can experiment with this.

Incidentally, an orange filter is also used in portrait photography to soften the lines in a face.
Green and blue filters
What are filters with cool colors being used for? These filters can also provide more depth and definition in a landscape. Picture a field full of flowers; with the use of a green filter, the flowers will stand out more from the grass. A blue filter lessens the contrast and makes all colors darker (except from the sky of course)
